Today is election day in the United Kingdom, and the polls are just closing. Polls have been open all day as people continued to flood in to place their vote.

According to the Financial Times the “Final opinion polls suggested the country is heading for a hung parliament in which the Conservatives are short of an overall majority in the House of Commons.” However, the conservatives right now are in place to achieve a dominant lead over the Labour and Liberal Democrat parties. If the conservatives win, this will be the first time in 13 years that they lead with David Cameron as the Conservative party leader.

Spokesman Jim Gavin of the Secretary of State’s office said more than 48,000 people had voted in person with nearly and that nearly 100,000 people have voted in total early voting before the cutoff. That’s close to 40,000 more absentee voters than in 2006.

It’s become commonplace for political candidates  to use social media for campaigning, but recently many of them have started using it not just to express their views on an issue or to release statements of their plans to the public as in Senator Evan Bayh’s case, “Here is the video of my retirement announcement.http://bit.ly/cBhAu7” (@SenEvanBayh). They have also begun using it in ways to reveal their personality in less formal, biting ways.
