After a good start yesterday, fielding errors and poor batting resulted in another disappointing loss for Cubs fans across the nation. The Cubs grabbed the lead in the fifth after Derrek Lee’s RBI, but Alfonso Soriano’s dropped ball in left field combined with Miguel Cairo’s bouncing one-hopper hitting Sean Marshall’s foot, allowed the Reds to tie the game. A sacrifice fly by Jonny Gomes in the eighth let Brandon Phillips score the winning run. Red’s pitcher Mike Leake’s allowed one run on four hits in 6 2/3 innings at his debut. The Reds won the series, but fans remained hopeful as dbartelsen tweeted, “I hope the cubs can win their home opener today and turn their season around!”
