The Cubs’ right-handed starter, Carlos Zambrano will return to the five-man rotation sometime in the near future. Manager Lou Piniella has decided to reinsert Zambrano into the rotation after the $18 million dollar “starter” for the Cubs spent the last three weeks swimming in murky waters of middle relief.

The Cubs finally end their four-game losing streak as they slid by the Florida Marlins 4-3 at Wrigley Field Wednesday afternoon. Cubs’ top rookie prospect Starlin Castro broke a Major League record last night in Cincinnati by being the first player in history to record six RBIs during his first game in the majors. Castro went 2-5 with a three-run homer in his first at-bat as a Cub, followed by a three-run triple in his very next plate appearance. The shortstop Castro, was called up on Friday from Double-A Tennessee to give the Cubs a much needed boost offensively.

The Cubs tried to play home-run derby today with the Arizona Diamondbacks, sadly they lost both the game and the home-run contest.

The Diamondbacks handed the Cubs their worse loss since opening day, defeating the Cubs 13-5. Arizona scored most of their 13 runs on four home runs.

On Saturday Carlos Zambrano made his first relief appearance since June 28, 2002, and he was effective holding the Brewers to just one run. The big right-hander had made over 240 starts before coming out of bullpen in Saturday’s game.
